Shirley moved to Connecticut in 1999, when she met her amazing husband, Willie Lenhard. Together they have built a beautiful life in Connecticut and have recently turned their attention on their dream jobs. Willie is the owner of Willie’s Automotive – two doors down from the Cottage – and was instrumental in Shirley finding the ideal space to open The Cottage at Main, LLC. While the couple had always intended to own their own businesses, it wasn’t until Shirley’s 38 year career as a family law paralegal came to an abrupt end in March of 2020, during the height of the COVID pandemic. Shirley found herself without a career and, after many years of helping the best people at the worst times in their lives, Shirley began focusing on herself and her home. Within a year, every corner of the tiny cottage they live in was cleaned, purged, and/or renovated, so Shirley went down to Georgia to visit her 91 year old Austrian mother, to spend quality “girl time” together. It was then that Willie called to tell Shirley that the building on the other side of the Laurel Diner was available and Shirley jumped at the chance for her dreams to be realized. The Cottage at Main, LLC was born, nurtured, and loved into being by Shirley, her husband, Willie, their puppy, Saffi, their family in Georgia and North Carolina, their friends here in New England, the Southbury community, and the giving and caring neighbors at the Laurel Diner. For Shirley, Cottages are magical places where only good things happen and fun and laughter are the music played by the soul and heard by the heart!
